Deder (en. Gimmy)

A Case Study

Deder is a self-service ordering kiosk system built to bring the convenience of fast food automation into independent and growing restaurant operations. Inspired by the touchscreen interfaces popularized by brands like McDonald’s, the goal was to deliver a streamlined, low-friction ordering experience — without enterprise-level overhead.

The Opportunity

Our client wanted a solution that would modernize the customer experience, speed up service, and reduce reliance on counter staff — all while keeping hardware and development costs under control. They needed a product that felt polished, worked reliably in a real-world setting, and could be deployed affordably across multiple venues.

What We Delivered

We developed a complete end-to-end MVP, combining software, hardware integration, and custom kiosk design:

  • A touchscreen-based ordering interface powered by a React web application
  • A Node.js backend to manage product data, order flow, and system state
  • A custom-built kiosk using Raspberry Pi and touchscreen overlays to minimize hardware costs
  • An internal admin layer to manage menu updates, product images, and order configurations

We also designed and assembled the mechanical components of the kiosk in-house to maintain control over cost and performance.

Technical Approach

To meet tight hardware budgets, we engineered solutions that maximized efficiency:

  • Used touchscreen overlays instead of commercial touch displays — achieving the same result at a fraction of the cost
  • Deployed the entire system on Raspberry Pi, removing the need for traditional computing hardware
  • Wrote custom drivers and configurations to ensure responsive and reliable touch input

This approach kept the project agile, maintainable, and cost-effective without compromising on user experience.

Outcome

The result was a production-ready MVP now being piloted in a live environment. It offers:

  • A fast, intuitive ordering experience
  • Significant reduction in queue times and staffing bottlenecks
  • A clean visual menu with item photos and modifiers
  • A scalable system ready for further rollout

Status: MVP complete, in-use by pilot client
Stack: React, Node.js, Raspberry Pi, Touchscreen Overlay
